Heating Your Sunroom in the Winter
Winter is coming. Yes, the dreaded season where the days are short and everything gets really cold. Some areas have it worse than others; luckily, for those of us in the Atlanta area, our winters are often quite mild…but there can be some really cold days as well.
Although sunrooms are great for helping retain warmth from the sun through the winter, there are always those overcast days (or even weeks) where you won’t be getting much sun at all. Shorter days also mean less natural sunlight, so on those extra chilly days and nights, you may find you need some heating alternatives that will let you use your sunroom and keep warm at the same time.
Here are some ideas on how you can heat your sunroom in the winter months, without breaking the bank.
Space Heaters
Space heaters have become incredibly popular over the years and are seen as a great way of obtaining on demand heat. If your sunroom isn’t connected to your home’s heating system, this is one way to provide warmth on a temporary basis. There are different varieties available, such as radiant heating, oil filled radiators and infrared heaters, all of which provide substantial heat for different sized rooms. Space heaters are portable and if used properly, they can be extremely economical alternatives to expensive heating oil.
Baseboards
If your house already has a heating system and it proves to costly to configure with a sunroom, then you might consider electric baseboard heating, These are zone heaters that are often mounted where the floor and wall meet (hence the name ‘baseboard’) and provide anywhere from 500 to 2000 watts worth of power. You can find baseboards in most houses, or in specific areas, depending on a room’s dimensions. Baseboards are generally quiet and are considered to be fairly efficient and safe.
Ventless Fireplaces
The ventless fireplace is another popular way to heat a sunroom. These are fireplaces that run on natural gas, propane and electricity; you don’t need a chimney or a flue. While some may think that these types of fireplaces aren’t entirely safe, they are in fact federally regulated in order to provide a safe heating option. Obviously, there are many different designs available, but you’ll find that they offer a convenient, low-cost alternative to heating your sunroom.
These are just a few options on how to heat your sunroom in the winter, so that it can be used year round, regardless of how cold it might be outside. Having a heated sunroom will help make it an energy efficient space that will help you and your family beat the doldrums this winter in Atlanta.
